Pittsboro, Indiana's Justin Marvel had a Memorial Weekend he will never forget.
The Valvoline USAC National Sprint Car Series brought a tough field of drivers to the baddest dirt track of them all.
The Mopar Million Champ Jac Haudenshild was in the house along with the Four Crown Sprint King Dickie Gaines.
Justin pushed off for qualifying and set a lap nobody came close too. A lap of 15.6 which is only 4 tenths off Jay Drake's current track record of 15.2.
The track became very racey in the heats and Justin found himself in a transfer spot early in the heat only to get passed off the last corner of the last lap.
With a tongue lashing from crew chief Jimmy Jones, Justin placed second in the B which secured him 3rd row outside in the Feature.
Marvel drove from 6th to 2nd in 4 laps and was flying. Rim riding and showing shades of Jack Hewitt at times.
The field went 29 straight laps until a yellow slowed the field.
It was a green/white/checkered situation and Justin going for all the marbles slid out of the rubber and dropped a position to Tracy Hines.
As the checkered dropped and the Mile Per Hour Gang # 47 pulled onto the frontstretch, Marvel was dissapointed at first then it sunk in.
"To get quick time and finish 3rd is an awesome night anywhere, but to do it here at Eldora with USAC and the kind of competition that is here is amazing" , Marvel adds .
It was a fantastic night for Marvel and the team. To top it all off it was Justin's son Brinton's first time to the Big E and he got to see his father have a career night.
